Why Torque Wrench Calibration Matters
Torque wrenches are precision tools, and even good brands drift out of tolerance over time due to heavy use, accidental overloads and harsh site conditions. If the torque applied is too low, you risk leaks, loosening and fatigue; too high, and you can crack, stretch or damage critical components.
Most torque tools should be checked on a regular schedule – typically every 12 months or 5,000 tightenings, whichever comes first, especially where safety and compliance are critical. Regular calibration gives you traceable evidence that your torque tools are accurate, repeatable and suitable for use.
How Often Should I Calibrate My Torque Wrenches?
As a guide, torque wrenches should normally be calibrated at least every 12 months or every 5,000 operations, with shorter intervals for high‑risk, high‑load or quality‑critical applications. You should also recalibrate after any overload, damage, repair or if the tool has been dropped or misused.
If you’re unsure what interval is appropriate for your site, we can review your application, duty cycle and standards and recommend a sensible, defensible calibration schedule.
